Keeping a Journal
Dear teachers, school staff, childminders, how are you doing?
As part of our #thankyouteachers campaign, each Friday until half-term, we are providing you free, one of the tools from our Schools' Mark kit to help you to deal with the challenges you face while continuing to be useful & kind and inspiring our children.
Here is a quick tool to help you keep some balance in your life and to give you a bit of quality time.
The art of Journalling is centuries old. Our version is based on Julia Cameron’s work in The Artist’s Way at Work (2000). It has been used widely in the field of Positive Psychology and there is considerable evidence for its benefits.
It is also one of the most researched tools in the field of Positive Psychology. Evidence shows these can be some of the benefits of Journalling:
gives you the time to develop self-awareness, self-reflection and learning
improves well-being
develops your intelligences, including emotional intelligence (see other tools) will help bring your emotions to awareness and reduce their potency
stimulates creativity
develops mindfulness
helps you realise current unconscious processes
clarifies your thoughts and feelings
reduces stress
helps with problem-solving
develops more aware relationships
reduces symptoms of depression before an important event (like an exam, presentation or important meeting)
improves your working memory (Baikie & Wilhelm, 2005)
